No need to respond to this.

The power of no expectations.

I write weekly about the strategies, habits, and tactics around cultivating the connections that matter to you.

Ever hesitate to reach out to a business contact because you don't want to seem pushy or like you're always asking for something? I've been there, and I've got a story and a tip that might just change the game for you.

Let me tell you about my friend Scott.

He was trying to keep up with his business contacts but was getting crickets in response. One day, over coffee, we took a look at his messages. They were all well-intentioned - a “How are you?” came from a place of genuine curiosity. But they all seemed to need something back, like updates or feedback, which can feel like homework to busy folks.

We decided to switch things up. Alex began sending messages that shared something interesting or helpful, like an article or a quick tip, with a twist. He'd end with, "No reply needed, just thought you'd find this interesting!"

And guess what? It worked wonders. His contacts didn't feel cornered into responding, but many did, just because they appreciated the gesture without the pressure. Many responded back with a “How are you?” - his original intent.

You’re cultivating relationships with people that you know, like, and trust - and hope they reciprocate. If we focus on that, we’ll realize the power of giving without the expectation of a response.

Why This Approach Rocks

Think of it as dropping by someone's desk to share a quick, fun fact without expecting them to drop everything and chat. It's a light, friendly way to say, "Hey, I value our connection."

Give It a Go

Next time you want to touch base with a client or colleague but don't want to add to their to-do list, try sending them something insightful or uplifting with a "no reply needed" note. It's like a virtual nod across the room that says, "You're on my radar, and that's all."

It's all about keeping the connection warm without the pressure. A little "thinking of you" in the business world can go a long way. Try it out!
